My name is Shelby N. LaMothe and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate (or LPCA) in the state of Texas. As a black woman, from New Orleans, Louisiana, talking about your mental health struggles was often met with, "just push through" or "pray about it" or even just simply minimized; I decided that, that was not okay. While I do believe in talking to God and a Therapist, I struggled with chronic anxiety and depression over the last decade of my life. I needed more than just prayer, I needed coping skills, tools, and a safe space to share my inner most thoughts and feelings that had previously been minimized.

That, in itself,  brought me into this field - I want to help other's be seen. 

After 3 years of education and experience in internships, I graduated with my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling  and received my provisional license to practice therapy. seen. by shel, llc is owned by Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, Shelby N. LaMothe. Offering Telehealth psychotherapy to individuals who need a safe space to be themselves; to be seen.
